Well, I have tried to keep from venting about the latest Red Sox swoon. After Eric Gagne "spit the bit" last night, I just had to "blog out my frustrations"
When the trade deadline came and went, and the Red Sox were the only team to really do anything to improve their pitching staff, I was hopeful. Eric Gagne was once a great closer, so maybe he could be a good fit for the Sox to trot him out in the 8th, to hold onto a lead until the could bring in Paps. Boy , was I ever wrong ! Gagne has been terrible, and what makes me more concerned is Tito keeps trotting him out there to blow games. Sure one or two terrible outing can be attributed to rust, but hell, last night I heard Francona say he as going to keep putting him in those situations, as "they needed him" Cripes, I could go out there and toss up home run shots. Hearing him say this made me think that maybe the problem was deeper.
Could the Japanese imports be crapping out due to the long season ? Hell I hope not!
I am not one of those Red Sox fans who think the sky is falling, but I have to turn off the TV every time I see the bespectacled one trot to the mound.
God I hope they can get Manny back, and put this foolishness to an end !

It's been a pretty easy year for the Red Sox bullpen during the '07 campaign. But it is pretty hard to believe that the swoon that it's been in as of late was soon after the addition of Gagne.
It's yet another one of those questionable moves by the Sox front office. After not playing in a full season since 2004, the Sox took a huge risk in getting him to bolster up the bullpen. I say this not due to his recent injuries in past seasons, but because he's never played in a pressure cooker like Boston. When he played for the Dodgers and the Rangers, there wasn't as much pressure on him to perform and become an effective pitcher again, however Boston fans seemed to have forgotten about his injuries and figured this could be the lights out setup man/closer of 2003/2004.
Pitching in Boston is tough, there's more riding on every pitch, every swing of the bat, every dive on a hit to the field.
But right now, I really just think that the bullpen is tired, and they're just a little haggard. But with the rest that Okajima is getting they should be ready to go come playoff time, I'd rather go through all of this now, then have an even bigger meltdown, come October.
And it just so happens that all of this occurs when Gagne showed up.
Welcome to New England, Eric
